Torrance, CA Comes Away With Victory Over Deer Park, TX

Torrance, California continues their run in the 2019 Mustang-9 World Series following an 8-1 victory over Deer Park, Texas.

The Californians got things going with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, scoring on Rintaro Igarashi’s ground out to second base and Shota Nakamura’s effort to score on a wild pitch. With a 2-0 lead, Blake Ely grounded out to shortstop and scored Gavin Oshima from third base in the bottom of the second inning.

Following their third shut out inning, Alex Iihara tripled to right field, bringing in Igarashi before coming around the bases on a ground out from Kyler Jung.

Deer Park tallied their lone run in the top of the fourth inning, breaking the shut out on Barrett Springer’s single to shortstop. Torrance would add another run in the bottom of the inning on a ground out to second from Iihara for a 7-1 lead before Edrian Chao singled to left field for the final run in the bottom of the fifth inning.  

Shota Nakamura led all batters with two hits, while Alex Iihara finished the game with two RBIs. Hal Sakamoto pitched a full six innings for Torrance, allowing four hits and finishing with one strikeout. Both Kason Edwards and Ethan Sauceda led the Deer Park pitching staff with a strikeout apiece.

With the win, Torrance moves on to play San Diego, California at 7:30 for their second game of the day. Deer Park, Texas finishes their run in the tournament with a record of 1-2.
